Hello!
For half the country on November 5th– shit just got real.
The uncertainty of what the next 4 years will look like in the USA is creating a lot of sadness and anxiety. And one of the many ways we can self-soothe and care for ourselves is to create sanctuary – at home.
Creating sanctuary at home does not have to cost a lot of money. It just has to be intentional.

Sending lots of 💙,
WHY SHOULD I CREATE SANCTUARY AT HOME?
Our homes should feel like a giant, comforting hug—like the ones we used to receive from our parents when we were feeling down or overwhelmed. In a world where we’re constantly bombarded with news and information 24/7, our homes should offer a sanctuary, a place to escape from the stress of the outside world. Today’s pace of life, coupled with the constant flow of information, has created one of the most stressful times in modern history. Given this, the question is no longer: How can we afford to create sanctuary at home? It’s: How can we afford not to?
I want you to think about your home as a cocoon. The actual definition of a cocoon is: “a protective envelope that protects from predators and mortality from hostile weather.” On a very basic level this is what shelter started out as for humans. But now, thanks to the advancement of technology and human comforts, we can actually go beyond that to create something super intentional and soothing.
In times like these, creating sanctuary is yet another tool we need to add to our healing and self-care toolkit.
HOW CAN I CREATE SANCTUARY AT HOME THAT'S CUSTOMIZED TO ME?
Step 1: Gather inspiration. The first thing you want to do to create sanctuary at home is to find 4-5 inspirational home images (on pinterest, houzz or google images) that make you feel cozy, warm and safe. These visuals will serve as a reference for the atmosphere you want to cultivate in your own space.
Next, take a deeper look at them and begin to write down some of the common elements they have. Look at paint color, lighting, materials, and furniture and décor. By identifying the common elements, you’ll get a sense of the design choices that resonate with you.
From there, you can begin to incorporate those elements into your current home design, making thoughtful adjustments to bring a sense of calm and tranquility into your environment.
Step 2: Hone in on what makes you feel relaxed. Think about the things that make you feel calm and at ease. Is it a specific scent? A cozy blanket? A piece of art? Make a list and then once again, see which ones can be easily incorporated into the existing design of your home.
By curating these personal elements, you’ll transform your space into a true haven where you can recharge and find peace.
HERE ARE A COUPLE MORE WAYS TO CREATE SANCTUARY AT HOME
#1: Create a tranquil palette. Choose soft, tonal paint colors that calm and soothe.
#2: Bring in cozy textures. Add high pile area rugs that create warmth and ground you.
#3: Connect to Nature. Bring in plants – they are a great medicine for us and provide an instant boost.
#4: Set the mood with lighting. Install dimmers on all of your light switches so that you can bring the lights down which helps with relaxation and signals to your body – it’s time to slow down.
#5: Create space to curl up. Add soft throws and decorative pillows to your sofas and armchairs that make seating areas feel cozier.
