How to Refresh Your Home and Office for 2026: A Post-Holiday Organization Guide

Hello!

And Happy New Year ✨. This month’s letter was inspired by, of all things, a dying plant.

I started 2026 looking at my home and office, thinking about what I wanted to invite in—and what was starting to feel heavy or misaligned. First on the list? A tall, struggling fiddle leaf tree. When I visited a plant nursery on Long Island to find a replacement, the employee gave me a tip that changed my entire perspective on January.

She said, “You don’t want to fertilize in the Winter. Like us, plants go dormant and want to be left alone.”

It hit me: Why do we put such insane pressure on ourselves to re-invent our lives in the dead of Winter when the energy just isn’t there? So, here is your permission to not do a damn thing if you aren’t inspired yet.

However, if you are feeling that spark to clear the air…

I wanted to share my exactly how I approached the New Year at home and in my office with you.

From finding a home for a mountain of Paw Patrol toys that put a smile on my son’s face, to making peace with a sofa I can’t replace just yet, I’m sharing the raw, real process of how I’m organizing my home and office for a better 2026.

As always, if you have questions, want to share your own story, or need support with your space, I’m here—just comment below. And if this resonates with someone you love, feel free to forward it along.

Sending you lots of 💛,

New Year, Fresh Perspective: Where Do I Begin?

This year, I traveled to Spain to be with my family for the holidays. While the trip was non-stop, it gave me a priceless gift: distance. Being away from both my office and home for a while allowed me to return with “fresh eyes.”

You know that strange feeling when you walk back into your house after a long trip? It feels like your home, but also… not really? That’s the energy I’m talking about. It’s the perfect time to assess your space because you finally have the emotional distance to see it clearly.

Finding Time for New Year Reflection

The Holidays were a whirlwind. Aside from some downtime on the plane—listening to music and daydreaming (one of my favorite ways to “see” things in a new light)—there was very little time to reflect.

On Saturday, I finally reclaimed my space. I woke up, meditated, had a cup of coffee, and just sat on my couch. I took a second to breathe and began the process of writing things down.

I grabbed my notebook and started jotting down these four prompts:

  1. Release: What I wanted to let go of from 2025
  2. Celebration: What I was proudest of in 2025
  3. Themes: The key lessons of 2025 (I dove deep into this last month)
  4. Intention: What I want to invite into my life for 2026

That clarity didn’t just make me feel better— it spurred me into taking action.

ORGANIZATION GUIDE:A Post-Holiday Home Edit

I don’t know about you, but when I got back, my house looked like a bomb had gone off. My office was the same—the leftover “debris” of rushing to get everything done before the flight to Spain.

The first thing I did was edit. I didn’t just declutter for myself; I did it for my son, too. I’ve found that his books and toys accumulate so quickly 😩. I went through a full home organization checklist of things I needed to tackle:

  • My closet
  • His closet
  • His books
  • His toys
  • The kitchen

The result? Six bags of items ready to donate. Even though I do a “Spring Cleaning” every year, this New Year edit felt essential for a clear mind.

Second, I cleaned and organized my house, ensuring everything was back in its place. And to the delight of my toddler son, even created an entire cabinet dedicated solely to his Paw Patrol toys.

Third, I once again sat in my home and did nothing. I spent time just looking at my home and tapping into how it made me feel. Here is what I learned from that exercise:

  • Overall Satisfaction: On a scale of 1-10, I was at about an 8 with my place.
  • Energy Drains: The sofa is a major energy drain and needs to go.
  • Nature: The dying fiddle leaf also had to go.
  • Alignment: All of the art still felt good, supportive, and aligned with me.
  • Flow: The layout of everything felt supportive for how my son and I move through the space.
  • Maintenance: The walls needed some serious dry erasing 😂.
  • New Solutions: I need to get a play table for my son’s room so his train sets have a home and we aren’t tripping over them.

And lastly, I got to work purchasing what I could at the moment and getting it installed. However, I realized that some changes have to wait.

A new sofa is not an option right now because I will be moving in six months and want to wait to purchase something new then. So, I stared at it and made peace with it. Knowing we have to co-habitate for the next six months, I decided I can’t let it “bum me out” every time I look at it. Sometimes, part of intentional living is simply accepting where you are while you plan for where you’re going.

ORGANIZATION GUIDE: TAKING ACTION AT THE OFFICE

On my first day back, I applied the same four-step organization process to my office.

1. The Edit

I cleared out old papers, folders, and samples. Since it’s a workspace, I did a digitial declutter of my computer and our shared drive. I also had about a box of samples that vendors won’t take back, which I’ll be donating to Material for the Arts. Doing this twice a year prevents the “accumulation creep”.

2. Clean and Organize

I put all remaining paperwork and samples back where they belonged to restore order and wiped down my desk and shelves.

3. Sit in Stillness

Just as I did at home, I sat in my office and did nothing but look around.

The Verdict: My office is perfect for me right now. It feels completely aligned with who I am and what I am working towards in my business. A win!

Like you, I don’t know exactly what 2026 will bring. But I’ve learned that performing this New Year reset routine—editing, organizing, and simply sitting in stillness—does three vital things for me:

  1. Creates Supportive Spaces: It ensures that both my home and office are environments that hold me and help me be my best, no matter what challenges arise.
  2. Invites Opportunity: By physically decluttering, I create actual space for new things and fresh opportunities to enter my life.
  3. Cultivates Inner Peace: It brings me a sense of inner calm and clarity that is truly priceless.

Your Turn: How Are You Starting the Year?

I’ve found so much power in looking at my surroundings with “fresh eyes” after a trip away. Whether it’s clearing out a single junk drawer or re-evaluating the energy of an entire room, every small action counts toward a more intentional lifestyle.

What about you? Do you have a specific ritual at home or the office to start your year off on the right foot? I’d love to hear your thoughts and tips—comment below!
