Interior Design Blog

There’s so much pressure at the start of the year to make improvements in all areas of our lives- diet, exercise, our spaces, our daily habits and it comes at the absolute worst time to try these things- in the dead of Winter.

If you look closely at what Winter represents and what Nature is doing during this period, it’s all about slowing down, hibernating and reflecting inwards about how we’re feeling and what we may want to change. So that when the Spring comes, and the energy is more upbeat we’re ready to spring into action!

So with that said, and in honoring Nature’s rhythms this month we want to talk about all the ways you might feel blocked when it comes to improving and designing your space.

If any of these resonate with you or you want to share other reasons why you can’t seem to get your space right please hit reply and send them my way. I would love to hear about them.

Here’s to honoring our natural rhythms this year,

#1 – How I Grew Up Affects How I See My Space

Growing up in a cluttered, disorganized home has a direct impact on the home or office you create for yourself. As an adult you may want something different because you never felt at home in your space as a child but welcoming in something unfamiliar can be daunting – even if intellectually we know it’s better for us.

#2 – I Don’t Know Where To Begin When It Comes To Designing My Space

Overwhelm and then paralysis takes over in this scenario. We give up before we even begin because the idea of designing an entire home or office feels so huge we get stuck before we can even begin, leading to us feeling blocked.

#3 – I’m Not Creative Enough to Design My Space

The limiting belief we have about ourselves “that we’re not creative enough” stops us dead in our tracks. Like #2, we’re dead in the water before we can even begin.

#4 – I Don’t Deserve A Beautiful Space

This is tied to #1, how we grew up and what we’re accustomed to but also to self-worth. When we don’t have self-worth then we have a hard time investing in and treating ourself to beautiful experiences because we feel like we don’t deserve them.

The first thing is to identify the why behind it. If the reasons I listed didn’t resonate with you maybe take a second to find out what your personal why is. Once we know the why behind why we do or don’t do certain things, then we can bring in our awareness to deal with them better. You can’t heal what is not revealed!

In next month’s post we’ll be sharing some easy ways to get started getting your space right and why it’s as important to your well-being as diet, exercise and sleep.

If after that you feel like you need professional help to get your home or office looking right then we got you- whether it’s building and designing an entire home or office, helping you select finishes for a construction project or just being a sounding board and signing up for our e-design services- there are a myriad of ways we can support you.
