Boost Your Mood

In many ancient cultures the changing of seasons is an important time of the year and signifies a new beginning. This fall might not look like a typical one thanks to COVID, so this month we’re coming to you with simple things you can do to your space to help boost your mood. For those of you continuing to work from home, the fall marks an opportunity to reset, recharge and improve your #WFH situation. Let’s do this!

COLOR IS YOUR SECRET WEAPON

Color has a huge impact on how we feel. Certain colors (like pastels) are calming, while others are energizing. For a mood boost, bright oranges and yellows are your best bet.

If you’re feeling adventurous, paint a focal wall (we love Benjamin Moore’s Tucker Orange) or invest in a piece of furniture in a bright color. If you’re looking to dip your toe in rather than take a full plunge, try colorful pillows or a framed print (bonus for mood boosting retail therapy).

LET FRESH AIR IN

Fresh air is one of the most energizing things about being outdoors, but it works wonders inside your home as well.

Open your windows and let in the breeze for an instant lift. Another important thing to do? Dust. A healthy home is a happy home – literally. Did you know that the air inside our homes is more polluted than the air outside? Dusting is one of the best ways to minimize indoor pollutants and keep your lungs, and yourself, feeling great. It’s just as important to clean the filters of your AC or HVAC units, as these can be a major source of dust and mold.

ACCESS TO NATURAL LIGHT

Sunlight is a proven mood booster. Inside your home, one of the best ways to put yourself in good spirits is to increase the amount of natural light you’re getting or improve the quality of the light coming from fixtures. There are a few easy ways to boost your light to boost your mood:

  • Clean your windows! This may seem like a small thing, but let’s in a ton more natural light. Do it now while the weather is nice.
  • If you can’t position your workspace near a window – try to spend lunch or some time in the morning near one.
  • Change your light bulbs – Make sure all of your light bulbs are functioning and replace those that aren’t. Upgrade to LED bulbs in 3000K, which is the temperature at which most people feel their happiest. Still feel like it’s too dim in your home? Add a table lamp or a plug in sconce for an easy pick-me-up.
